In the old days people would say things like ‘super niche’, drilling down to the nth degree until there was no reach left. BUT… virality turned all that on its head. Nowadays we think of getting the most reach possible by going broad on your subject matter (e.g. ‘how to lose weight’ rather than ‘keto for women over 40 who work from home and have 2 cats’), with your ideal customer being INSIDE that population, not the entirety of it.E.g. of the 3,000 reach you get on reels, 1,000 are your ideal customer and the rest is a FUTURE customer. E.g. they’re not in need of your services NOW, but they could be if they a) Keep watching you and building trust b) Follow your directions and make some progress on their own c) Reach a point in their life where your services are needed. So… the question isn’t ‘how to find the ideal customer’, the question is how to get that ideal customer to put their hand up and say ‘I need your help!’. We do THAT by making targeted offers, e.g. ‘Are you a parent who’s struggling to lose weight while working from home and feel like you’ve tried everything??’ Bottom line? Don’t get so caught up with ideal customer! List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about) and they add some curiosity. How you can use this hook: Warn your audience that they shouldn’t do something unless they can handle a list of things.
