The only thing that’s preventing you from making any progress here is not Whether
you’re ready, whether you have everything prepared, whether you’ve done everything in
the background, whether you know what the answer is The only thing that is
preventing you from being ready is your willingness to do it Or lack thereof Because
the skill of being entrepreneur is understanding that 90 % of what you do is actions
that you don’t know. What people tend to do is they just want to prepare, you
know, they want to prepare everything and they want to make everything perfect in
inverted commas and get everything right and prepared beforehand. To which I usually
say to those people, "Look, have you ever made anything perfect in your life?" To
which of course the is no. And so if the answer to the question, have you made
anything perfect in your life is no,
then perfectionism doesn’t really exist for you. It’s just well -intended
procrastination. And so the best thing you could possibly do is get comfortable
You know since when is was any of this supposed to be comfortable since when was
any of this supposed to be easy? You know never was you know, it’s just like if
you were to run a 10k right, you know, there’s gonna be uncomfortable periods.
You can’t keep fighting Discomfort all the time you will get nowhere you will not
make any progress whatsoever, because you are constantly fighting discomfort.
You’re afraid of worst possible scenarios that are extremely unlikely to happen,
and even if they did happen, would have an almost zero impact to you.
And instead, you stay in this bubble where you’re saying, "Well, Dan, I’m just
getting everything ready."
it.
So you can’t get your time back. So if you’ve been working on a course for months,
the best thing you can do right now is stop that immediately and start making some
sales because you don’t even know whether anyone wants to buy that thing, let alone
building that thing.
You know, if you want to be successful as an entrepreneur, you have to understand
that failure is a part of the process. Just like in sports,
if you were learning tennis, you’re not going to hit every ball. I saw a quote
from Federer yesterday, and he was doing this talk to some university graduates,
and he said he’s one of the greatest tennis players of all time and yet he only
ever won 53 % of the shots that he hit.
So the only difference between being the greatest tennis player of all time and
being mediocre was 3%, but because he made 53 % and the other guy made 47,
he wins. But that also means that in a hundred shots that he takes,
he loses 47 of them. And that is, needs to be the mindset that you guys have.
Like, since when do you think the first thing that you’ve been working on is going
to be successful? And quite frankly, what gives you the audacity to believe that?
It’s like, no, this is a failure led process. It’s not a success -led process. It’s
a failure -led process. You’re gonna be throwing shit at the wall until something
sticks. That’s the way it works. If you throw no shit at the wall, nothing will
stick. And if you only throw one thing at the wall that you’ve been working for
six months on and you pray to the gods that this thing’s gonna work and it
inherently doesn’t because the probability of that working is extremely low because
you’ve had no lead or prospect interaction to build that whatsoever,
then you’re going to spend six months on something that doesn’t work. And in that
time, there are other people who’ve tested out 20, 30 different offers in that time
and found out the one that actually works and then gone and made a shit ton of
money from it. And so when people say to you, well, down not ready yet,
you know, yeah, you’re not ready in the sense that you procrastinate too much and
you’re too much of perfectionist. So in that sense, no, you’re not ready. In terms
of what you’ve built, that’s irrelevant. Whether you’ve built anything or not is
irrelevant.
But if you’re working on something, you’re procrastinating on something, you’re not
taking any action, And you’re constantly delaying and going very, very slowly. You
know you’re going as slowly as you’re going. That’s the thing you need to work on.
That’s the area that you’re not ready in. Is that, you know, concerted action?
You know, most of you guys could build a function or landing page in a couple of
evenings. You could be done by the end of this week. You know it could be done.
It doesn’t matter whether it looks great or not. You know you could if you just
got your shit together you know you could so let’s not keep dressing it up to say
well yeah but yeah but and all the reasons why the fact is you know you could so
let’s go do it now I promise you you’ll feel a hell of a lot better once it’s
done because ultimately it doesn’t matter so if all of you hold them back and say
well is this the right thing to do doesn’t matter test it can I do this Who
knows. Test it.
Am I ready? Probably not. Test it. What is failure? What’s the worst thing that can
happen? You know, the worst thing can happen for most people is that you stay where
you are. That’s not a big deal because you’re already there. You can’t make less
than zero money.
So it’s a net positive. And it’s even more net positive because you’ll learn
something so if you put something out there and it doesn’t work you’ve learned
something and now the chances of it working the next time are much higher and so
the game is a positive outcome game it’s not a negative outcome game it’s only
positive but here’s what’s more important if you’re stuck or worried about failure or
anything like that then that’s guaranteed failure The irony is by taking no action
you are failing as in you’re doing nothing at all like you that’s to me taking no
action is failing whether something works or not has nothing to do with failure you
know so okay people weren’t interested to me that’s not a failure right because i’m
learning i’m in a process of learning and i’ve learned so it’s not a failure
because i’ve learned to me the only thing that is failure is inaction.
I didn’t do anything and I haven’t done anything for months. To me, that’s failure.
Because in that scenario, I’m staying in the situation I don’t want.
I’m not learning anything. And I’m actually probably making the whole situation worse,
because now that inaction is turning into to fear and procrastination and so on and
so on. The answers to all of these things are, put it out, let’s see what happens.
Now, not tomorrow, not just, oh, nod and say, oh yeah,
Dan, sure, yeah, I’ll put that on my diary. It’s like, you know, you guys could
put out an ITAP. Now, watch it on the phone. And here’s the irony, I know you
won’t. I know you won’t. And I’m gonna challenge you all. I ain’t gonna say, I
know you won’t, ’cause you haven’t got the balls to do it. So prove me wrong. I
ask that question like, are you just someone who says stuff? Is that who you are
now? You’re just someone who says things. How many of your friends have you got
though? Just like, oh yeah, you know, I’ll quit one day. And 20 years later,
they’re still doing that job they hate. Are you that person? Are you a person that
just says stuff? It’s actually really just full of shit. You just say things, but
you don’t do things. You’re one of those people? You know, we’ve all got friends
like that, right? Are you just a person that says stuff and doesn’t do stuff or
you’re an action taker? Ask, you know, let me know in the chat. Because if you
just say stuff and never do stuff, then maybe you’re full of shit. And I mean that
with love, I don’t mean that in an insulting way, but like I’m trying to like help
you guys here to say, look, ask who you are. Are you a person that just says
stuff? Or Or you’re a person that does stuff. ‘Cause we’ve all got friends that
just say stuff. Oh yeah, I’ll quit one day. Oh yeah, I hate this job, oh whatever.
And they’re still there, they’re still there and they’re juggly hates. I ask that
question. Are you just talker, right? You just talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk.
Are you all talk or are you action? Ask that question. For me, it’s, you know, it
was a helpful exercise for me to say like, who am I? Like, how do I identify
myself? Based on my actions, not based on how I like to describe myself based on
the actions that I’m taking, right? I had that with my fitness. So I’d let my
fitness go over last year. I kept making excuses as to why I wasn’t ending up in
the gym until eventually I got to the point. I said, Dan, you just full of shit.
You keep saying you’re going to go and you’re not going. You’re obviously full of
shit, you know? And you need to decide about who you are. You are a guy when it
comes to fitness or you were guy that actually does stuff or you just full of
shit. And I had that conversation myself and now I’m turning it around. I’m pretty
happy with that. But like, you know, I turned it into a self identification process
I’d be like, who am I? Am I actually This person or am I really just a talker?
Oh, yeah, I’m working on stuff every time you see your friends I’m working on
stuff. I’m working on stuff But they know maybe your friends know that you’re full
of shit because like every time they see you you keep talking All the stuff you’re
working on you don’t seem to be getting anywhere Maybe your friends think you’re
full of shit, but like just have a thing. I was like who am I like you know show
show us show us don’t think about it show us show the world who you are You know,
you’re not a person of words. You’re a person of action You know really identify
yourself with that and write that on a wall. I’m not a person of words I’m a
person of action. That’s the differentiator between you and everyone else is you know
You don’t just say stuff. You’re not just full of shit like everyone else and just
say stuff and never do stuff. You actually do stuff, you know, even if it scares
you, even if you’re uncomfortable, even if you don’t think you’re ready, you still
do stuff. Because that’s who you are. You’re a doer, not a sayer.
Visualize that person and become that person. That’s the person that’s going to get
you to that next level.
